Announcements:
My name is Chris Chow, and I am the newly elected President of the Financial Management Association (FMA). FMA is the largest student organization in the College of Business, and has won numerous honors from FMA International.
At FMA, we aim to connect business students with each other and our business community. We want to help our members prepare to start their careers through the following opportunities:
- Resume and Interview Workshops
- Social networking
- Informative Guest Speakers
- Career and Internship Opportunities
At our weekly development meetings, we invite professionals from companies in the Silicon Valley to come and speak to our members about current business topics. Each semester we try to bring new relevant topics to our meetings to ensure that our members are gaining the most benefit from regular attendance. Representatives from the following companies have historically participated in our general meetings: Cisco, Target, Goldman Sachs, and many more. As members, we ask that you submit your resumes to FMA so that we may pass them along to these companies. In these difficult times, we want to support our members as much as we can as they prepare to start their careers.
FMA is also a place where you can establish relationships in the College of Business. My involvement in this club has helped me form a support network at school. It has enriched my college experience and I have established lasting relationships. In FMA you have to opportunity to meet and mingle with likeminded students from FMA and other CoB clubs. My participation in FMA has taught me that as you progress in your academic pursuits, these relationships can be one of your most important tools to success.
Not only do members have to opportunity to network at our social events, we also give our members the chance to meet and take part in service events. Few things in life are as rewarding as giving back to your community. FMA plans two service events per semester. We also try and do something new each semester to give our members the occasion to experience varied forms of service. In the past we have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Sacred Heart, Veggielution, Second Harvest, and many such organizations. We look forward to continuing this service tradition this semester.
An added bonus for qualified members is our National Honors Society (NHS) membership. In order to qualify for this distinction, students must meet GPA and attendance requirements. As part of this elite group, NHS members get to participate in two additional networking socials, only open to NHS members. We invite professionals and NHS members to these events so that they may establish business relationships and speak one-on-one with representatives of leading companies in the Silicon Valley.
My goals as the President for this semester include:
- Expand our network by creating awareness of CoB events and activities
- Create and communicate career and internship opportunities
- Help create an engaging experience for our members
- Motivate students to get involved on campus
- Provide and communicate opportunities for students to give back to our community
Welcome to FMA and I look forward to an eventful semester!
Regards,
Chris Chow
